We are confident the city and its people will support us and help make this run a success once again. Pinkathon is more than a Marathon. It is the seed of changeand the beginning of a movement that is carried forward by a growing community of empowered women across India, who share a belief that a healthy family, a healthy nation and a healthy world begins with empowered women. The first step in empowerment is taking control of your own health, respecting yourself and understanding and celebrating the value you bring to your family and society. Empowerment is not a gift of society; it is a gift you give yourself.”

The Ironman Triathlete further added, “Fitness is liberating. If a culture of regular exercise and fitness must take root in India, our women need to become aware about the benefits of fitness. They need to be able to get out and run, which doesn’t happen enough due to various cultural reasons. We now organize The SBI Pinkathon in eight cities. Thousands of women run at each of these events over the 3km, 5km, Volini10km and 21km distances. They run in running gear but also in sarees, salwarkameez, hijabs or whatever attire they deem fit and keeps them comfortable. In association with Bajaj Electricals, Pinkathon is planting 1000 tress in every city after the run.

Reema Sanghavi, Managing Director, Maximus Events further added that “Besides Pune, SBI Pinkathon has already been held in various cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore,Delhi, Guwahati& will be happening in Ahmedabad and Mumbai very soon. The multi-city national event has received an overwhelming expression of support with over 50,000 women of all ages, across different walks of life from 6 cities in 2014. This number is expected to cross 75,000 in 2015 with 8 cities. The campaign will be supported with an integrated communication plan which includes several pre- event activities like training runs for baby wearing mothers, first time women runners and cancer survivors. There will also be an extensive online campaign to reach out to the masses and help the movement grow.”

As a precursor to the main day, the team is organising unique events such as the Cancer Shero Trek. A Shero is a cancer survivor & this event is dedicated towards felicitating those survivors. About SBI Pinkathon – Empowering Indian Women:

SBI Pinkathon powered by Women’s Horlicks – Empowering Indian Women is an international run only for women. The objective of the event is to encourage women’s health and fitness. Pinkathon also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and prevention. Pegged at being the deadliest cancer in women in the country, it is estimated that 1 in 22 Indian women have the lifetime probability of developing breast cancer and the number of new breast cancer cases were expected to rise to 250,000 new cases per year by 2015. Pinkathon is a unique initiative that encourages women to incorporate a fitness programme into their daily lives by promoting simple activities like walking and running. Running addresses most of the top 10 ways to help prevent breast cancer, not only promoting well-being but also raising immunity levels and improving health to help fight diseases like cancer. The key to controlling this disease, therefore, is to create awareness about preventive measures for breast cancer. Pinkathon offers the running distances of 3 km, 5 km and Volini 10 km giving each runner an opportunity to run in their comfort zone.
