SEMINAR ON 1965 INDO-PAK WAR ORGANIZED BY SOUTHERN COMMAND

Punekar News's photo.HQ Southern Command of the Indian Army, based at Pune organized a seminar on 1965 Indo-Pak war in Dhanvatri Auditorium, Armed Forces Medical College on 18 Sep 2015. The event was organized to commemorate 50 years of the victory in the 1965 war. The seminar was attended by a large Number of retired officers who had participated in the 1965 Indo- Pak war. In the keynote address, Major General Neeraj Bali, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding Dakshin Maharashtra Sub Area remembered the martyrs of the Indo-Pak war with great reverence. On this occasion, a two minute silence was also observed in remembrance of the war heroes. A large number of veterans residing at Pune shared their experiences of the war with the serving officers and young cadets.

The guest speakers, Lt Gen VG Patankar, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal (Retired), and Air Marshal Adi Rustomji Ghandhi, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva medal, Veer Chakra (Retired) spoke about various facets of the war involving both Army and Air Force including then prevailing geo-political situation leading to the conflict and brought out important lessons learnt from the war. Giving an account of personal experience of the war, a 93 year old veteran Col RD Advani recalled the immense contribution of his unit in winning the battle of Barki near Lahore.
