Southern Command celebrates 53rd Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day

Pune, August 23, 2019 : 53rd Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Foundation Day was celebrated at Pune on 23 August 2019 which was a culmination of a number of events conducted during the month focused at welfare of Veer Naris and families of serving soldiers of Indian Army.

Southern Command AWWA under the able guidance of Mrs Neena Saini, Regional President AWWA has paid special attention to the empowerment of women by running Army Skill Training Centres under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna at eight locations and 42 Vocational Training Centres (VTC) spread over 11 states.

It is also running various Army Pre Primary Schools and Asha Schools for special children, SHRAVAN program for audio verbal therapy to hearing impaired children and PRERNA a voluntary initiative to provide emotional and social support to cancer patients.

Regional President AWWA, Mrs Neena Saini was the Chief Guest during the Foundation Day celebration at Rajendra Sinhji Institute wherein AWWA award of excellence were given to the ladies and children for their voluntary contribution to the organisation. While addressing a gathering of approximately 500 families of Pune Military Station, Mrs Neena Saini complimented them for their exemplary efforts in amelioration of problems of the members and beneficiaries.

The Regional President AWWA reaffirmed her resolve and reassured the gathering that AWWA would continue to strive for empowering the wives of serving and retired soldiers and their kin, thereby making them self reliant. She also exhorted the families to create a happy and healthy environment thereby living up to their reputation of being “the invisible hands that shape the punch of the Indian Army”.
