Space Operations, Spatial Technology Courses enhanced MILIT profile

Pune, May 7, 2019 : Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune is a unique and only Tri Services Technical Training Institute in the world that conducts Military technical courses with focus on various defence technologies for the Indian Armed Forces.  Officers from friendly foreign countries are also trained alongwith Indian counterparts in MILIT.

On 17 May 2019, a glittering valedictory function was organised where in 146 officers of Indian Armed Forces and six officers of Friendly Foreign Countries passed out after successful completion of Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) and Naval Technical Staff Course (NTSC).  DSTSC courses are conducted for all arms of the Indian Armed Forces to prepare mid-level officers for Command and Staff appointments, while NTSC officers would take up their first assignments in the Naval Armament Inspectorate stream.

 

Lieutenant General SK Saini, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command was the Chief Guest for the event.  Air Vice Marshal Vivek Rajhans, Vishisht Seva Medal, Commandant MILIT, senior officers from the three services and other distinguished dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The Army Commander felicitated all the graduating officers and awarded the meritorious student officers.  The Army Commander Southern Command’s Trophy and Commandant’s Trophy for the best all round performance amongst the Army Officers was awarded to Major Saurabh Gupta, Commandant’s trophy amongst Naval Officers was given to Commander Ritesh Wahi, Commandant’s trophy for Air Force Officers went to Wing Commander Arunava Pal and Commandant’s trophy in NTSC was given to Lieutenant (Indian Navy) Adarsh Joseph.  A new trophy called as the ‘Purple Trophy’ instituted by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) to promote jointness amongst the tri-service officers was awarded to Squadron Leader Ankit Pareek.  The Army Commander also released the  annual edition of ‘GHORPAD’ magazine on this occasion.

The Army Commander while addressing the gathering said that we are living in an era in which technology is advancing at a disruptive pace and stressed upon the requirement of imbibing, absorbing and applying cutting edge technologies in the Armed Forces. He also said that progress in technology and warfare go hand in hand.

The Army Commander also lauded the efforts by the MILIT faculty for equipping the graduating officers with the right kind of exposure to technology, tactics, knowledge of staff duties and joint exercises.  He also mentioned that the recently introduced courses like Space Operations and Spatial Technology Course have enhanced the profile of MILIT considerably.  He congratulated the passing out officers and their families and wished them good luck in all their future endeavours.
