Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019 Event Ambassador highlights importance of running Mary Kom excited to be integral part of prestigious marathon

Mumbai, 18th January, 2019: Highlighting the importance of running for a healthy lifestyle, world champion boxer, Mary Kom, today said that she was excited to be an integral part of a prestigious marathon.

The Event Ambassador for the 16th edition of the iconic Tata Mumbai Marathon, ‘Magnificent Mary’ told mediapersons in an interaction that she has been participating in running events since her school days. “When I was in school I used to compete in the 100m, 200m, and 400m races. After becoming a boxer, I participated in a midnight marathon in Bengaluru where I ran a 5k. And now, I want to be a part of a run again. I am very excited and look forward to running with all the Mumbai marathon participants on Sunday.”

Mary articulated her views on the benefits of running for a healthy life. “Running is the base for a healthy lifestyle. Physical fitness should play an important role in everyone’s life. Even if a person cannot run for an hour or two, they should try to run for 15 minutes daily, which is enough to keep them fit.”

On being the event ambassador of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, Mary Kom said: “It’s an honour for me to be associated with the prestigious Tata Mumbai Marathon and support not just the runners, but also the various causes that the marathon helps through its wonderful charity platform. I am also excited to witness the elite runners from India and across the world who will be running for glory.”

Apart from her running episodes, Mary Kom also discussed the role that training and fitness plays in a sportsperson’s life. On being asked about her upcoming matches and training for it, Mary Kom expressed her wish to win more titles in the future. She does not want to stop competing or participating. She looks forward to achieving “more and more” and her hunger for winning laurels for the country knows no bounds.

The Asian Games Gold Medalist, Dingko Singh, the man behind Mary Kom’s inspiration was also present at the event. Speaking about Mary Kom’s unprecedented sixth win in the world boxing amateur championship and her victories he said: “I knew Mary would reach here some day. There was a craze of boxing in the early 2000s. From there on till now, she still strives to win more. She doesn’t consider her dreams have been fulfilled, which drives her to bring in more laurels for the nation.
