Telecast and broadcast hours for political parties have been allocated by Election Commission of India

Mumbai, April 2 : Telecast and broadcast hours are allocated by Election Commission of India (ECI) on Doordarshan and Akashwani (All India Radio) for national and state-level parties for the campaign of Lok Sabha general election. The ECI has fixed the timings of the campaign hours on Doordarshan and Akashwani for Seven national and 52 state level parties.

In accordance with the seats obtained by political parties in the Lok Sabha elections 2014, the Commission has given time to national and state parties on Doordarshan and Akashwani.

Political parties will get from 520 to 180 minutes of time for campaigning

Seven national parties will get a total of 600 minutes for the promotion on the national channel. They will receive a total of 900 minutes on regional channel. 52 state level parties receive a total of 1,800 minutes for the telecast and broadcast of the regional channel for the promotion, while they will receive a total of 520 minutes on National TV Channel for the broadcast and telecast.

National and state level parties must use the time given to them to campaign on the national and regional channels of Doordarshan and Akashwani with caution. The national party will get 10 hours on Doordarshan and 15 hours on Regional Channel for the campaigning. The state level party will get 30 hours for the campaign on the regional channel. The State level parties will get 8 hours and 40 minutes at Regional Satellite Centers, while the national party will get 10 hours and 15 hours for the campaign at the main center of Akashwani and the regional channel respectively. The state level party will get 30 hours for campaign at the regional air channels of Akashwani. Apart from this, the state level parties will get 8 hours and 40 minutes for campaign at Regional Satellite Centers.

Until the final day of the nomination and till the last phase of the election, the parties can do the campaign through Doordarshan and Akashwani. The parties, which are recognized by the ECl, must have to give a written copy of the relevant information or speech to the Doordarshan and Aakashwani, while promoting and disseminating their party on Doordarshan or Aakashwari. The information will be verified through Doordarshan and Akashwani. If this information is written against the rules laid down by the ECl, then some of the sentences, references or paragraphs have to be omitted.

While the national and political parties are campaigning on Doordarshan and Akashwani, it is necessary to give the schedule of the time and publicity material for the campaign to Prasar Bharati Board. In addition to this, the approval of the same would need to be taken. Besides, these parties should not criticize the country, caste and religion or the court or the person.A clear instruction has been issued in this regard.
