The 9th edition of the Vinod Doshi Theatre Festival announced!

Pune: If there’s one thing that theatre lovers in Pune look forward to year after year it’s the Vinod Doshi Theatre Festival! Currently in its 9th edition; the festival has been close to the hearts of many Punekars who over the years have regularly been patronizing it over its 5 days’ duration. At a Press conference held in the City today, the dates as well as the Plays finalized for the Festival were announced by an esteemed panelist including Dr. Saryu Doshi(Trustee, Vinod & Saryu Doshi Foundation), Mr. Ashok Kulkarni(Festival Director), Atul Pethe (Theatre Director), Girish Pandurang Kulkarni (Film & Theatre Actor, Director), Irawati Karnik (Playwright & Actor) & Mohit Takalkar (Theatre Director). To be held from the 27th of February to 3rd March 2017 at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, Kothrud, it’s one of the few annual experimental theatre festivals that’s held in Maharashtra and the only one in Pune city.

The last 8 years have seen many talented Theatre makers showcase their body of work here. The Festival has also been an instrumental in bringing young variety of arts connoisseurs. This year promises to be bigger and even better.

This year will witness exciting experimental plays by directors Atul Pethe,Abhishek Majumdar, Neel Chaudhuri, Surjit Nongmeikapam and SharanyaRamprakash. Stalwarts such as Vijay Tendulkar, Mohan Rakesh, IsmatChugtai, Sai Paranjpye, Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah and Raghubeer Yadav have been a part of the festival over the years. Punekars are in for a delight as Plays from New Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and Imphal in Hindi, English, Kannada and Marathi will shine on the stage this year.

An elated and emotional Dr. SaryuDoshi, Trustee, Vinod &SaryuDoshi Foundation said, “Year after year our team looks for talented Directors and Artists across the length and breadth of the Country. Mr. Ashok Kulkarni, Festival Director,further added, “This year we have plays by established groups from different parts of India and in different languages too. We promise the city 5 exciting days of Theatre they’d love to witness. It’s a line up after tremendous efforts by the entire organizing team and our audiences will see it themselves for sure.”
