Pune, February 20, 2018: ”The In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technique has come a long way in past 25 years. In the beginning, the success rate of IVF was only over 10 to 12 percent. But now it has become 50 percent. The failures, especially in conceiving a baby which are related to the mother’s health have seen a lot of advancements in the treatment.” said the renowned Gynecologist and IVF specialist Dr. Avinash Phadnis. The doctor also pointed out that in 40 to 45 percent couples the cause for the infertility is about the Sperms and not related to the woman.

He was speaking in an interview session organized at ONP Leela Hospital in Pimple- Saudagar. The program was arranged on the occasion of the inauguration of an IVF unit at the hospital. The unit was inaugurated at the hands of Laxman Jagtap, MLA. Dr. Avinash Phadnis, Founder, ONP Hospitals, Dr. Amita Phadnis, renowned Pediatrician & founder director, ONP Hospitals, Vinod Chandwani, GK Associates, Dr. Nina Sathe, renowned Gynecologist, Dr. Amit Patil, Gynecologist were present among the dignitaries.

Dr. Avinash Phadnis was the first to make the IVF treatment available in Pune way back in 1993. Further speaking about the treatment he said,” There are possible failures even in the normal process of human fertilization. The natural process has a success rate of around 30 percent. Considering that, we should understand the limitations of artificial fertilization. In the beginning, the success rate of IVF was only around 10 to 12 percent. In past 25 years, the skill in Embryology has increased to a high level which directly contributed to increase in the success rate.”

He also pointed out that earlier, mother’s age while having her first baby used to be between 20-22 years. But now, most of the people get married late or delay the decision to have a kid. ”Couples generally decide to have their first baby when the woman’s age is 29 years or more and considering the earlier delay they want a quick result. Due to these reasons the number of couples seeking IVF treatment has increased today,” he exclaimed.

”We, at ONP Leela, first understand the exact problem of the couple getting failures in conceiving a child. Then we suggest a required treatment.” said DR. Amita Phadnis. ”We have a dedicated team of Gynecologists and Embryologists having a very long time experience in the field of IVF. This can be considered as our distinguishing feature.” She added.
