With 500 beds Symbiosis University Hospital becomes COVID19 nodal centre
Pune, April 7, 2020: The Symbiosis University Hospital signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra State government for COVID19 nodal centre.
Dr Vijay Natarajan CEO of Symbiosis Hospital, PMC Additional Commissioner Rubal Agarwal and Pune Zilha Parishad (ZP) CEO Ayush Prasad were present on the occasion. A total of 500 beds and 30 ICU beds at the hospital in Lavale have been dedicated to COVID19 patients.
According to Pune Mayor Muralidhar Mohol, Pune patients can be shifted to Symbiosis Hospital, if the beds at PMC run Naidu hospital are full. The cost of treatment will not be an issue as treatment is covered by government schemes. The number of positive patients reached 142 in Pune district on April 6.
According to officials, Symbiosis Hospital will be nearer to people of Mulshi taluka in rural Pune. There is no hospital with facilities like those available at Symbiosis Hospital, located about 20 km from Pune city, in Lavale campus of the Symbiosis International University (SIU).
The Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre (SUHRC) was established in 2019 for providing healthcare facilities. The surrounding area is semi-urban with approximately 32 villages being located within a 12 kilometres radius.
The SUHRC is a tertiary care hospital with all the basic specialities as well as select super specialities like Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology and Neurology. There will be a total of 22 ICU beds including 6 High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds and 6 dialysis beds. The other facilities include the latest MRI, CT scanner and Cathlab (angiography/ angioplasty) machines, state-of-the-art 5 operation theatres, Laboratory equipment, Blood bank and a 24 x7 Pharmacy. The doctors are employed on a full-time basis, to ensure 24x 7 delivery of quality care.
