Woman employee raped inside Infosys campus in Pune

Pune, December 29 : A 25-year-old woman employee of a canteen at Infosys Technologies in Pune was allegedly raped by a housekeeping staff while other one filmed the act on phone and threatened to make the clip public.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening in a lady washroom at the Infosys campus located in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park phase I in Hinjewadi.

After the rape survivor lodged a complaint on Monday night,Pune city police registered an FIR with Hinjewadi police station. Police have arrested both accused identified as Paritosh Baag (21) and Prakash Mahadik (30), both residents of Hinjewadi.

As per the information obtained from various sources, the woman hails from another district and came to Pune after marriage about a year back. Her husband works as office boy in another company in Hinjewadi.

She worked as cashier in a canteen at Infosys. The  incident took place at around 5.45 pm when the woman was washing her hands in the lady washroom. Baag barged into the washroom and forced himself on her.

“I shouted for help but nobody came to my rescue but Mahadik who instead of helping me began  taking photos on his mobile phone” stated the woman in her complaint.

They threatened to leak the pictures of the incident  if she revealed the incident to anyone.

However she informed woman security guards and other officials of the company. Later her husband came to pick her from the company.

Investigating officer Assistant police inspector Mahendra Kadam of Hinjewadi police station said that the accused persons work in the canteen.”Baag works as a kitchen staff while Mahadik works in house keeping department. The accused were produced before a magistrate court on Tuesday and were remanded to police custody till January 1” added Kadam.

Meanwhile Infosys issued a statement saying that they are co-operation with police in the investigation. “With regard to the alleged incident at our Pune campus involving our partners’ contractual staff, we are investigating the matter and are working closely with the police to aid their investigation. We have stringent security measures in place on all our campuses and have a zero tolerance policy against sexual harassment which extends to our contractual staff as well. The company will take necessary action as per policy”, the media statement said.
