Women empowerment marathon run in Pune

This morning a marathon was held in Pune by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) and Deutsche Bank India. These two institutions came together to raise funds for causes related to women’s empowerment. For the first time in India, a ladies Organisation conducted a half marathon with over 4,000 participations running over 3, 5, 10 & 21 km distance.

Some of the notable participants in the marathon included Pervin Kushru Batliwala, Sunita Tummalapalli, Devyana Haldar, Shilpa Phadke, Chitra Nadkarni and Kiran Kanojia.

Punekar News's photo.At the age of 26, a day before her birthday, she lost her left leg to an unfortunate incident when her bag was snatched and she was pushed off the train. Three and half years have passed and she has bounced back to life stronger with a new bout of positivity, taking bull by the horns. Through her running, she has repeatedly shown to the world that impossible is nothing as long as our attitude is right.

Running Experience

Started running at the age of 50 and completed 25 Half Marathons and three Full Marathons

19 Podium finishes

Has run marathons in Leh, Ladakh, Auroville, Delhi, Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai

At the age of 60 did the ‘Comrades’ Marathon, of 87.7 kms, in South Africa, in 11:34:57 and was

15th out of 66 women in age category (60+)
