Workshop on Polio Eradication held

KULGAM, APRIL 02: Two days District Level workshop was organized by World Health Organization in collaboration with Department of Health Services to disseminate information regarding eradicating polio .

 The workshop aimed to switch over from trivalent oral polio vaccine (tovp) to bivalent oral vaccine (bovp) is a part of National Polio Surveillance Program (NPSP) which is being observed on April 25 2016. The main theme of the program is to replace Tovp with Bovp deleting the type II strain from the vaccine.

            It is pertinent to mention that the whole country is switching to Bovp on the National Switch Day and the whole process is the main step of endgame strategy of Polio Virus and eradication of the disease from the globe. The main focus of the program was to withdraw the Tovp in the field and put Bovp in the cold chain replacing Tovp completely.
 While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Syed Abid who was the chief guest enjoined upon the officers of health to organize the trainings for ANMs and other stake holders to equip them with latest trends in medical science. He also directed to launch a mass awareness campaign among the masses regarding the merits of Bovp vaccine.
The others who participated in workshop include Chief Medical Officer, Dy Chief Medical Officer (District Immunization Officer), all BMO’s, Medical Superintendents of different hospitals and Community Health Officers.
