Pune, 31st July 2025: The Maharashtra State Election Commission has announced that the voter list as of July 1, 2025, will be considered valid for the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra. With this directive, a total of 90,33,104 voters across 21 assembly constituencies in Pune district, including those from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, will be eligible to cast their votes in the elections slated for later this year.

This move is part of the commission’s preparations to conduct elections for various civic and rural bodies such as Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats, Cantonments, Panchayat Samitis, and Gram Panchayats.

Pune, the second-largest district in the state by population, also holds the second-highest number of voters. The district includes:
2 Municipal Corporations (Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad),
8 Municipal Councils,
3 Nagar Panchayats,
3 Cantonment Boards,
15 Panchayat Samitis, and
1,386 Gram Panchayats.

Due to the postponement of the 2021 national census amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the upcoming elections will be conducted based on the 2011 census data. According to that data, the population of Pune city—including 11 merged villages and 23 additional villages incorporated later—is 35.56 lakh.

Pune City Voter Count Reaches Nearly 38 Lakh
Within Pune city limits, which encompass assembly segments such as Kasba Peth, Pune Cantonment, Hadapsar, Shivajinagar, Parvati, Kothrud, Khadakwasla, and Vadgaon Sheri, as well as parts of Shirur, Purandar, and Bhor, the number of registered voters stands at 37,95,230.
The final ward delimitation and electoral roll updates are now being carried out using the population data from 2011 in accordance with the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act (MMC Act), which requires ward formation to reflect the most accurate demographic representation possible.

With the elections likely to be conducted by the end of the year, the administrative machinery in Pune district is ramping up efforts to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the polls.
