‘Pune Traffic Police Obstructing Alternative Route Of Sinhagad Road’
Pune, 11th October 2022: Due to the obstinate stance of the traffic police on the road from Vitthalwadi to PL Deshpande Park, the fact that the motorists are not using the alternative road as expected has come to the fore. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has requested the traffic police to remove the dividers in the road while coming to Sinhagad road using an alternative route.
However, the traffic police have taken a stand that till the flyover between Funtime Cinema and Rajaram Bridge is completed, the divider will not be removed. Therefore, the road is not used as expected as the motorists have to take a ‘detour’ of a few meters distance. Due to this, the traffic jam on Sinhagad road has also continued.
To solve the traffic jam on Sinhagad road from Vitthalwadi to PL Deshpande Park, an alternate route has been started. All the works have been completed by the Road Department of the Municipal Corporation and the road has been opened for traffic.
It was claimed that this road will reduce the traffic congestion on Sinhagad road. However, despite opening the road to traffic, the fact that traffic jam on Sinhagad road continues and it is clear that the traffic police is responsible for it.
The road from Vitthalwadi to PL Deshpande Park was blocked for many years due to one reason or another. As there is no alternative road to Sinhagad road, the work of the flyover between Rajaram Bridge and Funtime Cinema has been started by the Municipal Corporation. The problem of traffic congestion has worsened as the work on the flyover has been started while the alternative five roads remain on paper.
Drivers have to travel 45 minutes for a distance of one to 1.5 kilometres. As the use of the alternative route is not expected, the traffic pressure on Sinhagad road has remained constant. After reaching PL Deshpande Park, motorists going towards Swargate have to take a detour of a few meters distance. Therefore, for the comfort of motorists, the Road Department asked the traffic police to remove the divider in front of PL Deshpande Park and install traffic control lights there.
However, the traffic police rejected it and informed the municipal corporation that the divider cannot be removed until the flyover is completed. That is why the road department of the municipal corporation has claimed that the road is not being used by the drivers.
There is no alternative road to Sinhagad road. Therefore, it has been seen from time to time that there is a continuous traffic jam on this road. Sinhagad road is the only road to reach Donje, Khadakwasla, Kirkitwadi, Nanded City, Dhayari, Vadgaon, Suncity, Manikbaug. Currently, the canal road from Vitthalwadi to Funtime Cinema is being used extensively by motorists.
