Pune – Turtle Killing Comes To Light After Son Makes Video Of Father For Not Taking Him For Hunting; 4 Persons Arrested

Daund, 20th October 2022: Four persons have been arrested for allegedly killing a turtle during hunting in Daund taluka of Pune district.

Nana Dharmaji Sawant (60) and his son Dada Nana Sawant (40) staying in Kanifnath Nagar at Varvand are hunters by profession. On Tuesday, they went for a hunt. Dada Nana Sawant’s 15-year-old son wanted to accompany them but since his exams were underway, they refused to take him along. The boy, who studies in a school at Varvand, made a viral video of his father and grandfather cutting a turtle.

Now, forest department has arrested four persons till now for offences under the relevant sections of the Indian Wildlife Act. A magistrate court has remanded them to police custody till October 25.

Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Rahul Patil has appealed people to immediately contact helpline number 1926 of the forest department if anyone finds someone hunting wild animals.
