Pune: Fire Due To Short Circuit In Electricity Wire In Farm; Sugarcane And Vineyard Spread Across Ten Acres Burnt

Khadakwadi, 18th January 2023: In farmland, due to a spark caused by a short circuit in the electricity wires, the standing crop of sugarcane and about three hundred vines of grapes burnt in an area of 10 acres, causing a loss of about Rs 13 lakh to three farmers. The said incident happened around 2.00 pm today at Khadakwadi in Junnar taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra.

The information regarding the incident was given by farmers Dadabhau Khaire, and Tanaji Bhau Khaire. Limbaji Maruti Shete, Tanaji Bhau Khaire has a sugarcane farm near the Meena branch canal in Khadakwadi. Today in the afternoon, there was a short circuit in the power lines passing through the farm which caused the sugarcane to catch fire.

Within 1.5 hrs, a standing crop of sugarcane and drip tubes spread across ten acres of Limbaji Shete and Tanaji Khaire’s land were burnt. Shete and Khaire suffered a loss of Rs ten lakh.

Adjacent to the sugarcane field is Abaji Katore’s vineyard. About three hundred grapes in the garden caught fire, causing a loss of Rs three lakh to Katore. Dadabhau Khaire gave the information about this to the village worker Talathi and the electricity company officials.

This is the third incident of short circuit fire in this area in a year. Farmers are suffering losses due to short circuits due to wear and tear of power lines.
