Closed liquor shops may reopen soon in Pune
Pune – If all goes well then the closed liquor shops located 500 meters from highways passing through the Pune municipal corporation (PMC) limits, will reopen soon.
The state Public Works Department (PWD), which controls the highways, has proposed to transfer these stretches to the PMC. It means that the stretches of highways passing through municipal corporation/cities, will not remain highways but will be just like any other road.
The PWD move to denotify highways in city limits has been welcomed by liquor shops owners and people.
Officials said that highways may be denotified in other cities also and liquor shops may be allowed to re-open again.
Since April 1 all liquor shops in 500 meter radius of National and state highways have closed as per a Supreme Court order.
