Pune, 15th November 2024: The body of an elderly woman was discovered in the Mutha riverbed near Kamgar Putala on Thursday evening (14th November), with police suspecting that she may have fallen from nearby railway tracks after being struck by a train.

The deceased, identified as 78-year-old Suhasini Sudhir Desai, a resident of Vivekananda Society on Sinhagad Road, Parvati, is believed to have died either in an accident or by possible suicide, according to Senior Police Inspector Chandrasekhar Sawant from Shivajinagar Police Station.

Around 6 pm, police received a report of a woman’s body lying in the riverbed. Senior Inspector Sawant responded to the call and recovered Desai’s purse, jewelry, and mobile phone at the scene. Her identity was confirmed through an Aadhaar card found in her purse, allowing the authorities to notify her family.

Desai reportedly left her home around 9 am that day, and a donation receipt found with her indicated she had recently donated food. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage to determine the events leading up to her death and to assess whether she may have accidentally fallen from the train. The investigation remains ongoing.
