Pune, 31st December 2024: In a dramatic turn of events, Valmik Karad, the prime accused in the murder case of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, surrendered at the CID headquarters in Pune today at approximately 12:30 PM. An FIR is registered at Kej Police Station in Beed District.

Karad, who had been evading arrest for the past three weeks, arrived in an SUV at the CID office accompanied by a large crowd. Over 200 supporters had gathered outside the CID office at the same time, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his surrender.

According to DIG Sarang Awad, who addressed the media, Karad surrendered voluntarily and was immediately taken into custody by the CID team. After initial questioning, he was sent with a team to be handed over to Deputy Superintendent of CID Anil Guzar, the Investigating Officer in the case.

The surrender has sparked widespread speculation and criticism. Despite this being a high-profile case, the police failed to locate and arrest Karad for nearly three weeks, leading to suspicions of political pressure on the investigation team.

Adding to the intrigue, rumors had been circulating since yesterday that Karad was likely to surrender soon. However, the CID appeared unprepared for his sudden appearance and the large gathering of supporters outside their headquarters.

Observers have pointed to possible political undercurrents influencing the case. Sources suggest that mounting pressure on prominent political figure Dhananjay Munde, from both the government and opposition parties, may have played a role in orchestrating the surrender.

Critics are questioning how a high-profile accused managed to evade arrest despite experienced officers handling the case. The presence of a large crowd of supporters at the scene further fuels suspicions of premeditation and coordination, heightening allegations of political interference.

The case has drawn significant attention, with demands for a thorough probe into the actions—or inactions—of investigators over the past three weeks.

As the CID takes custody of Valmik Karad, the focus now shifts to interrogating the accused and uncovering the full extent of his alleged involvement in the case. Whether political influence played a role or if this is a strategic move by the accused remains to be seen.
