Swargate, 27th February 2025: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman was raped inside a parked Shivshahi bus at Swargate bus stand in the early hours of Tuesday. The accused, identified as Dattatray Gade, lured the victim into the bus under the pretense of helping her find her ride, locked the doors, and assaulted her before fleeing the scene. The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused.

The incident has raised serious concerns about security at the Swargate depot, one of Pune’s busiest bus stations. Following the revelation, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray Group) leader Vasant More visited the scene and vandalized the station, alleging that unauthorized lodging and illegal activities were taking place in abandoned buses parked at the depot. More claimed that sarees, bedsheets, condoms, and liquor bottles were found inside four old buses, suggesting that such incidents were occurring frequently.

With 20 security guards stationed at Swargate, questions are now being raised about their vigilance and possible complicity. More alleged that nearly 100 condom packets are found in the area daily, indicating a long-running issue that has gone unchecked. He demanded strict action against the depot authorities and security personnel for their negligence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Smarthana Patil confirmed that a case has been registered at Swargate police station and assured that the matter is being thoroughly investigated. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked outrage, with calls for increased security, stricter monitoring of bus depots, and accountability from those responsible for passenger safety.
