Bus Catches Fire on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, All Passengers Safe
Pune, 25th March 2025: A Shefali Travels bus caught fire on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway earlier today, but all passengers were safely evacuated with no reported injuries. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM near in the Shirgaon Police Station jurisdiction.
The bus, travelling from Kolhapur to Mumbai, veered off the highway while its driver, Varshiket Pralhad Birajdar, was attempting to overtake another vehicle. The loss of control led to the bus catching fire after it left the road.
Emergency services responded promptly, with three fire engines from Vadgaon Maval Fire Department, Talegaon Dabhade Fire Department and MSRDC arriving at the scene. The fire was quickly brought under control, and traffic on the expressway has since resumed normal flow.
This incident follows a series of recent bus fires on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Just days ago, on March 23, a private luxury bus carrying 36 passengers caught fire near Adhe village, also resulting in no injuries. Authorities are investigating the causes of these incidents to improve safety measures on the busy highway.
