UPI Payment Issues Surface Again, NPCI Confirms Network Fluctuations
Pune, 2nd April 2025: Users across India faced disruptions in UPI payments on Wednesday evening, affecting transactions made through PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and other digital payment platforms. Complaints about failed transactions, app crashes, and delayed payments flooded social media as people struggled to complete their financial transactions.
According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, nearly 64% of the complaints were related to money transfers, while 28% of users reported issues with making payments. Several users also faced trouble accessing UPI apps. Additionally, many State Bank of India (SBI) customers encountered transaction failures, a day after the bank suffered a major outage that disrupted banking services for thousands.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) acknowledged the issue in a post on X, stating that fluctuations in the success rate of certain banks led to increased latency in the UPI network. NPCI assured users that it is working closely with banks to stabilize the system.
“There were some intermittent declines in UPI due to fluctuations in the success rates in some banks. These fluctuations increased the latency in UPI network. NPCI has been working closely with them and UPI has been stable”, NPCI tweeted.
Frustrated users took to social media to report their experiences. One user mentioned attempting a payment via Google Pay, only for the amount to be deducted without the transaction going through. Others complained about difficulties in bill payments and mobile recharges, with Paytm crashing repeatedly during transactions.
This marks the second UPI outage in a week. Previously, NPCI had cited technical issues as the reason for a partial decline in UPI services.
