Pune: Youth Duped Of Rs 1.35 Lakh By Cyber Fraudsters Using Fake Dating App Profile; Investigation Underway

Pune, 4th April 2025: A young man from Guruwar Peth fell victim to a cyber fraud scam, losing ₹1.35 lakh after being lured through a fake friendship offer on a dating app. The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint at the Khadak Police Station, prompting an investigation into the matter.

According to the police, the victim received a message via a dating app promising friendship with a young woman. Responding to the message, he contacted the number provided. Unbeknownst to him, the number belonged to cyber fraudsters who systematically trapped him in their scheme.

The fraudsters convinced the youth to deposit money into a bank account under various pretexts. Trusting the process, the victim transferred a total of ₹1.35 lakh over multiple transactions. It was only after realizing that he had been scammed that he approached the authorities and lodged a complaint.

The case is currently under investigation by Police Inspector Manojkumar Londhe from the Crime Branch. Authorities have registered a case against the unknown perpetrators and are working to trace the culprits.
