Reported by Amit Singh
Pune, 11th April 2025: The Hadapsar railway terminal is nearing full operational status, with the first phase expected to be completed within the next 45 to 60 days. The announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav during a press conference today at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The development is part of a broader initiative to enhance railway infrastructure in Maharashtra and reduce congestion at Pune Station.
Currently, Hadapsar station operates partially, with two trains either originating from or terminating at the terminal. Officials have confirmed that key formalities are in progress to enable full-scale operations.
The terminal is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), a nationwide modernization initiative by Indian Railways. ABSS focuses on improving passenger amenities, integrating transport modes, and enhancing station infrastructure.
Key features of the ABSS include upgraded passenger amenities, well-structured traffic circulation, inter-modal integration, clear signage, enhanced cleanliness, and modern conveniences such as lifts, escalators, waiting halls, toilets, and free Wi-Fi. Additional features include kiosks for local products, improved passenger information systems, and landscaping.
To accommodate increased rail traffic, construction of an additional full-length loop line and a stabling line is planned. Land acquisition, previously a major hurdle in the terminal’s expansion, has been cleared following approval from the district collector, accelerating construction progress.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also present at the press conference, emphasized the state’s commitment to railway infrastructure growth, with Hadapsar Terminal being a critical component of the region’s transportation network expansion.
