Two Held For Pickpocketing Rs 30,000 After Staging Apology Drama In Pune’s Dhankawadi; Investigation Underway

Dhankawadi, 12th April 2025: In a bizarre theft incident in Pune’s Dhankawadi area, two individuals were arrested after they allegedly staged an apology drama to distract a pedestrian and steal ₹30,000 from his pocket. The said incident occurred on 9th April near the Shahu Bank.

The arrested accused have been identified as Saad Akbar Pathan (23), a resident of Sayyed Nagar, Hadapsar, and Aslam Ismail Shaikh (21), resident of Satavwadi, Hadapsar.

According to Sahakarnagar police, the complainant was walking past the Shahu Bank in Dhankawadi when the duo, riding a two-wheeler, deliberately bumped into him. Immediately after, the accused pretended to apologize and even enacted a gesture of falling at his feet. During this distraction, they stealthily stole ₹30,000 from his pocket and fled the scene.

The theft came to light minutes later when the victim realized the money was missing. A complaint was promptly lodged at Sahakarnagar Police Station. Investigators used CCTV footage from the surrounding area and tracked down the suspects through their vehicle registration number. The duo was arrested, and the motorcycle used in the crime has been seized.

Police have confirmed that further interrogation of the accused is underway to determine their involvement in other similar crimes.
