Pune IT Professional Dies by Suicide; Mother-in-Law Booked for Alleged Harassment

Hadapsar, 23rd June 2025: A 29-year-old woman employed with an IT firm in Pune was found dead in an apparent suicide, with her mother-in-law now facing legal action for alleged mental and physical harassment.

The deceased, identified as Deepika Pramod Jadhav, was a resident of Dream Elegance Society on Handewadi Road in Hadapsar. The Kalepadal Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday, following a complaint lodged by her father, who resides in Raigad district.

Deepika, who held an MBA and was working in the private IT sector, had been married since 2017 and was living with her husband, children, and in-laws in Pune.

According to the complaint, Deepika had been under consistent pressure from her mother-in-law to bring money from her parents. She was reportedly subjected to verbal abuse and domestic harassment, which allegedly contributed to her taking the extreme step around 12 noon on June 20.

Assistant Police Inspector Vilas Sutar, who is investigating the case, confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene. “Based on the statements of the family and the preliminary findings, we have registered an FIR against the mother-in-law. She has been booked under Sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 85 (cruelty by relatives of the husband) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” he said.

“At this point, only the mother-in-law has been named in the FIR. We are continuing our investigation to gather more evidence and verify all allegations,” Sutar added.
