Wagholi, 30th June 2025: In a step towards addressing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in Wagholi, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the development of three key roads in the area. This comes after Wagholi was officially merged into PMC limits in 2023.

Since the inclusion, residents have consistently voiced concerns over poor road infrastructure and heavy traffic on the Nagar highway, urging authorities to create alternate routes to decongest the arterial stretch.

A senior official from PMC’s road department confirmed the plan. “We are in the process of appointing a consultant to draft the DPR. The report will cover aspects like route alignment, feasibility studies, and land requirement assessments,” the official told Punekar News. “The document should be ready within six months,” he added.

As the comprehensive Development Plan (DP) for Wagholi is still pending approval, PMC has decided to move ahead with roadworks identified in the existing Regional Plan (RP) to avoid further delays. The three proposed roads have been identified as high priority.

Residents, particularly those commuting between Wagholi and Nagar Road, have welcomed the move but remain cautious. “The traffic situation is getting worse every day. We desperately need parallel routes to the highway. New roads could make a big difference if executed on time,” said Arvind More, a Wagholi resident and daily commuter.

PMC has already begun work on widening some internal roads in Wagholi, but challenges remain. “Encroachments and land acquisition hurdles are slowing progress,” admitted the PMC official. “However, efforts are underway to resolve these issues and ensure smoother implementation.”

The civic body is also exploring temporary traffic management solutions in the area while the larger road development plan takes shape.
