Pune Police PSI Suspended for Being Drunk While on Duty During Drunk Driving Drive

Camp, 4th July 2025: A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from the Lashkar Traffic Division of Pune Police has been suspended after he was found drunk while on duty, ironically during a drive against drunk driving in Camp area. The officer, identified as PSI Sanjay Sudhakar Matekar, reportedly caused public chaos and created a nuisance while on duty managing traffic.

The incident occurred during the late hours of 29th June, around 1 am, when Matekar was on duty for a drunk driving crackdown. He stopped a four-wheeler for inspection but ended up getting into an argument and scuffle with three people in the car. During this, it was discovered that Matekar himself was under the influence of alcohol.

A case has been registered against him at Lashkar Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav has ordered his immediate suspension.

PSI Matekar had initially joined the police force as a constable and rose to the rank of Sub-Inspector through departmental promotions.
