Ajit Pawar Urges Nitin Gadkari to Order Urgent Repairs of Pune-Nashik and Nashik-Mumbai Highways
Pune, 8th July 2025: Citing a surge in accidents and deteriorating road conditions, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, urging immediate repairs on the Pune-Nashik and Nashik-Mumbai National Highways.
In his letter, Pawar highlighted the alarming state of both highways, which are riddled with potholes and pose a growing threat to commuters. He noted that despite regular toll collection, there has been no significant improvement in road safety or quality.
“The Pune-Nashik Highway is a vital route for industrial, commercial, and passenger traffic. Yet, large and deep potholes have made the journey hazardous. These conditions are causing serious damage to vehicles and contributing to frequent accidents,” Pawar wrote.
He further emphasized the loss being borne by commuters in terms of time, fuel, and stress. “It is extremely unfortunate that citizens are suffering daily while the condition of the highway continues to decline,” he added.
The Deputy CM also raised concerns about the Nashik-Mumbai National Highway, particularly the Kasara Ghat and Igatpuri stretches. He pointed out that poor-quality diversions, incomplete bridgework, and deteriorating roads are making the route dangerous, with serious accidents being reported regularly.

Pawar has requested that a comprehensive inspection of both highways be undertaken and that immediate repair orders be issued to ensure public safety and uninterrupted transport movement.
Expressing confidence in Nitin Gadkari’s proven track record in infrastructure development, Pawar wrote, “Given the Union Minister’s commitment and efficiency in delivering quality road projects, I am hopeful that swift action will be taken to restore these key highways.”
The letter comes amid growing complaints from motorists and transporters over worsening road conditions on these crucial routes connecting major cities in Maharashtra.
