Mumbai/Pune, 10th July 2025: In a major development aimed at resolving the persistent traffic congestion in Pune’s Hinjawadi IT Park area, the Maharashtra Government has approved the construction of a 30-meter-wide alternate road and given the green light for a new metro corridor. The decisions were made during a high-level meeting held in Mumbai today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, following strong demands raised by MLA Shankar Jagtap in the Legislative Assembly.

The Hinjawadi region, a major IT hub, has long been plagued by severe traffic bottlenecks, inadequate infrastructure, and poor coordination between government departments — issues that have impacted thousands of tech employees and residents.

Key Announcements and Decisions:
Alternate 30-Meter Road through PMRDA Jurisdiction

MLA Shankar Jagtap proposed the development of a 30-meter-wide alternative road from Surya Hospital to Hinjawadi Phase 3 via Wakad, passing through PMRDA limits. He asserted that this road would divert more than 50% of traffic from the current main route, offering a long-term solution to the area’s congestion. Responding positively, CM Fadnavis issued immediate directives to PMRDA and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to reserve the land and begin road development at the earliest.

New Metro Route DPR to be Approved
Jagtap also demanded approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new metro route from Nigdi Mukai Chowk to Wakad, Nashik Phata, and Chakan. CM Fadnavis assured support and directed authorities to forward the DPR for prompt approval.

Formation of a ‘Single Point Authority’
To address delays caused by fragmented departmental coordination, Jagtap emphasized the need for a unified control system. Acting on this, CM Fadnavis announced the establishment of a Single Point Authority to streamline all infrastructure and development works under one roof.

CM’s Directives to Administration:
All development coordination through the Single Point Authority
Immediate development of the 30-meter-wide alternate road
Operationalisation of the Hinjawadi metro corridor by December 2025
Expansion of the Laxmi Chowk bridge to six lanes
Technical solutions for traffic control and parking
Start work on underpasses at Punawale, Tathawade, and Bhoomkar Chowk

Jagtap’s Push Brings Breakthrough
Jagtap’s proactive efforts and continuous follow-ups with the state leadership were instrumental in convening this crucial meeting and driving actionable outcomes. His initiative highlighted the urgent need for planned urban mobility in a globally significant IT hub like Hinjawadi.
