Pune Police Arrest Notorious Bus Thief; 20 Cases Solved, Stolen Gold Worth Rs 3.51 Lakh Recovered
Wanowrie, 12th July 2025: The Pune Police have arrested a notorious history-sheeter who specialized in stealing from passengers aboard city buses, particularly those operated by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML). The arrest was made by the Detection Branch (DB) of the Wanowrie Police Station.
The action unfolded during routine patrolling in the Wanowrie area when Police Sub-Inspector Dhanaji Tone and his team received a tip-off from Constables Amol Pilane and Vishnu Sutar. According to the information, a suspicious individual was attempting to sell old gold jewellery and enquiring about local gold shops.
Based on the description, police apprehended Chandrakant Jadhav (31), a resident of Mundhwa. Upon searching and interrogating him, he confessed to the thefts. Police recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs 3.51 lakh from his possession.
Jadhav primarily targeted women passengers boarding PMPML buses. With his arrest, police have successfully solved 20 theft cases , 11 registered at Mundhwa Police Station, 2 each at Wanowrie, Chatushringi, Wakad, and Sangvi, and 1 at Nigdi Police Station.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior Pune police officials, with a team led by Senior Police Inspector Satyajeet Adamane, in charge of Wanowrie Police Station, and Police Inspector Vijaykumar Doke.
