Aamir Khan Blames Javed Miandad’s Six for “Ruining” His Wedding Day
Mumbai, 12th July 2025: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently revealed a poignant cricket anecdote that overshadowed his first wedding. The actor and filmmaker – then 21 – secretly married childhood friend Reena Dutta in a simple court ceremony on 18 April 1986. However, their special day coincided with the historic India-Pakistan Austral-Asia Cup final, where Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad smashed a last-ball six to win the match for Pakistan.
Aamir recalled arriving home after the ceremony, fearing his family would question their absence. “We thought they’d ask where we were,” he said. But everyone had turned their attention to the cricket match. Aamir added, “India was winning, and then Miandad hit that six… and nobody cared about our wedding.” He admitted the sudden shift from celebration to shock left him feeling “almost depressed,” a statement he shared lightheartedly during a conversation on Lallantop.
Years later, while meeting Javed Miandad on a flight, Aamir jokingly told him, “Javed bhai, you ruined my wedding.” Miandad, surprised, responded, “Kaise?” Aamir replied, “That six put me into depression”.
Aamir’s revelation sheds light on an unexpected emotional overlap between sports and personal milestones. Several decades later, the story still resonates with the actor. He and Reena divorced in 2002 but co-parent their two children, Junaid and Ira. The anecdote also offers a glimpse into Aamir’s lasting bond with cricket highlighted by his presence at Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement and India’s 2011 World Cup win.
This charming confession touched hearts, blending nostalgia with humour. The public responded warmly, celebrating Aamir’s humility and the way a tiny moment in sport became a lifelong memory one that the actor continues to cherish and share with warmth and wit.
