Katraj, 15th July 2025: In a disturbing incident, 15 deer have died within the past two days at Pune’s well-known Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj. The sudden deaths have raised serious concerns, prompting an immediate investigation by zoo authorities and the forest department.

The Rajiv Gandhi Zoo, a major tourist attraction housing a wide range of animals and birds, is visited by thousands of tourists from across the globe. Currently, the park has a population of 98 deer, out of which 15 were found dead in rapid succession, sending shockwaves through the zoo staff and wildlife officials.

Upon discovering the dead animals, veterinarians and forest officials rushed to the site and initiated a thorough investigation. Although the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, initial suspicion points towards a viral infection, contaminated food, or sudden changes in weather conditions.

To determine the exact cause, samples from the deceased deer have been sent to a laboratory for detailed examination. The zoo administration has stated that it may take 2 to 3 days to receive the final pathology reports.

The incident has triggered concern among wildlife enthusiasts and citizens, with many questioning the safety standards and health monitoring protocols in place at the zoo. Authorities have assured that strict monitoring of all animals has been intensified and that further steps will be taken based on the lab report.

As the investigation continues, the zoo remains under tight scrutiny, and authorities are taking all necessary precautions to prevent any further loss of wildlife.
