261 Kgs of Ganja Seized by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police on Pune-Nashik Highway
Chakan, 15th July 2025: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police has seized 261 kilograms of marijuana (ganja) that was being transported illegally on the Pune-Nashik Highway. Two accused have been arrested in connection with the case. The action was carried out on Monday morning.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ram Pitale (25), a resident of Uruli Devachi, and Shreyas Chavan (21), a resident of Hadapsar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr. Shivaji Pawar stated that, under the instructions of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, the Anti-Narcotics Cell was patrolling to curb the illegal transport of narcotics.
On Monday, while patrolling within Chakan Police Station limits, Police Constable Javed Bagsiraj received a tip-off from a reliable source about a large consignment of ganja being transported. Acting on the information, a trap was laid near Alandi Phata on the Pune-Nashik Highway, and a suspicious tempo was intercepted. Upon inspection, 266.226 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 1.32 crore was found.
A case has been registered at Chakan Police Station, and the arrested accused have been remanded to police custody.
Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar said, “A total of 264 kilograms of ganja was seized from the tempo near Chakan. This is the largest seizure of ganja under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) so far. A few suspects are still at large. Full details will be shared once the remaining accused are apprehended.”
