Pune Bungalow Robbery: Rs 59 Lakh Looted from Retired Air Force Officer’s Home
Wanowrie, 16th July 2025: Two unidentified masked men broke into the residence of a retired Air Force officer in Wanowrie in the early hours of Tuesday, looting valuables worth over ₹59 lakh at knifepoint.
The targeted bungalow, located near Jambhulkar Chowk, belongs to 78-year-old retired Wing Commander Virendra Kumar Jindal and his 74-year-old wife.
The break-in occurred between 2:30 am and 3:15 am, when the elderly couple was asleep. According to police, the intruders gained entry by breaking the iron-grille door locks and threatened the couple with sharp weapons. Though visibly shaken, the Jindals were not physically harmed.
“The robbers spoke in Hindi and initially attempted to pry open the locker using screwdrivers. When that failed, they coerced the couple into handing over the keys,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Rajkumar Shinde. “Once the locker was opened, the men stole cash, gold jewellery, and other valuables before fleeing.”
The stolen items are collectively valued at ₹59.24 lakh. CCTV footage from the premises has captured images of the masked suspects. “We are tracking their movements before and after the burglary and working on several leads. Multiple police teams are involved in the investigation, and we are confident of making progress soon,” added DCP Shinde.
Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Admane of the Wanowrie police station confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He added that initial evidence points to a well-planned operation.
