Pune, 23rd July 2025: In a bid to modernize public transport and improve commuter convenience, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is all set to launch a live bus tracking feature on its official mobile application. The service will initially cover more than 700 buses operating in Pune and is expected to be made publicly available by the end of August.

The new feature will allow passengers to track their buses in real-time using a unique ‘Trip Code’ mentioned on their ticket. By entering this code into the MSRTC mobile app, users will be able to view the current location of the bus and its estimated arrival time at their chosen boarding point — a feature aimed at reducing long, uncertain waits at bus stops.

The MSRTC app, already live on the Google Play Store, offers a variety of commuter-friendly tools. These include:
-Online ticket booking
-Detailed route and schedule information
-Estimated time of arrival (ETA)
-Emergency alerts for breakdowns, medical help, or accidents
-Tech-Driven Transport Strategy

At present, the tracking feature is operational only for MSRTC staff as part of an internal trial phase. Once the pilot is evaluated and finalized, the service will be made accessible to the public. Pune will become one of the first cities in Maharashtra to benefit from such a smart mobility upgrade.

The move has been welcomed by frequent travelers. “Not knowing when the bus will arrive is always frustrating. If this feature works smoothly, it’ll be a real game-changer,” said a regular commuter.

Arun Siya, Divisional Controller of MSRTC Pune, said, “This live tracking system is part of our larger digital push to make public transport more reliable. By leveraging real-time data, we aim to boost commuter confidence and promote the use of MSRTC services.”
