Pune: Firing Incident at Lavni Dance Centre in Chauphula; MLA’s Brother Among Accused
Yavat, 23rd July 2025: An incident of firing was reported late on the night of July 21 at the Ambika Sanskrutik Kala Kendra in Chauphula, under the jurisdiction of Yavat Police Station, Pune rural police. No injuries were reported, but the case has drawn attention as one of the accused is reportedly the brother of a sitting MLA.
According to the complaint filed by Babasaheb Rajshree Andhare, manager of the centre, four individuals — Balasaheb Mandekar, Ganpat Jagtap, Chandrakant Marne, and one unidentified person — visited the dance centre around 7:30 PM. Later, at approximately 11:15 PM, one of the accused allegedly fired a shot in the air before all of them fled the scene.
“No one was injured and no direct firing at any individual took place,” the complaint notes.
Based on this, Yavat Police have registered a case under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.

Police officials said that one of the accused is the brother of Shankar Mandekar, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Bhor-Velha-Mulshi constituency representing the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction.
The case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
