‘You Guard the Nation, We’ll Support Your Family’; New Legal Support Scheme Assures Soldiers
New Delhi, 26th July 2025: In a major relief for Indian soldiers posted in remote and difficult regions, a new legal assistance scheme has been launched to ease their domestic challenges. Named the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025, the initiative is designed to support the families of serving personnel by addressing their legal issues back home.
The initiative, spearheaded by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), aims to unburden soldiers of legal worries while they are deployed in high-risk and inaccessible areas, ensuring their families receive timely legal aid and protection in their absence.
This historic scheme was formally unveiled today at a conference in Srinagar by Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of NALSA and the designated next Chief Justice of India. The event was graced by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“You protect the borders, we’ll protect your families,” is the message at the heart of this initiative. For the first time, a structured legal framework has been created to provide proactive support to military families across India, allowing soldiers to focus on their duties without being distracted by unresolved legal issues at home.
The inspiration for the programme reportedly stemmed from the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, where the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian armed forces deeply moved Justice Kant. According to sources, he felt the judiciary must play a greater role in easing the legal struggles of those who defend the nation.
With his elevation as Chief Justice of India scheduled for November 24, Justice Kant prioritized the rollout of this welfare-driven programme. The scheme is tailored to support personnel from the armed forces as well as paramilitary units like the BSF, CRPF, and ITBP, many of whom serve in harsh, remote environments far from their families.
Legal issues such as family property disputes, land ownership conflicts, or domestic matters often remain unresolved due to a soldier’s inability to attend court hearings while on duty. Under this scheme, NALSA will ensure representation in courts nationwide, bridging the legal gap for those in uniform.
This legal safety net marks a crucial step in recognizing the sacrifices made by soldiers—not just on the battlefield, but in their personal lives as well.
