Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Residents Raise Alarms Over Low Underpass and Poor Roads in Punawale and Tathawade
Pune, 7th August 2025: Residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad have raised red flags over the dangerously low clearance of the Tathawade underpass, which measures less than 2.5 metres. The restricted height has become a major obstacle for emergency response vehicles, including cardiac ambulances, significantly endangering public safety.
Citizens have submitted appeals to the Pune Divisional Commissioner, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner, and the Police Commissioner, urging immediate action. They are demanding that the height restriction be revised to ensure seamless access for emergency services, an upgrade they say is critical to avoid life-threatening delays during medical crises.
Alongside the underpass issue, residents have also expressed deep frustration over the deteriorating condition of roads across Tathawade and Punawale. In several parts of these fast-developing suburbs, roads are either severely damaged or missing altogether. Locals link at least two recent serious accidents in the past two months to the poor state of road infrastructure.
PCMC City Engineer Makarand Nikam has assured that a site inspection will be conducted and appropriate measures will follow.
Citizens are calling for this matter to be treated with urgency, demanding immediate repairs to roadways and swift resolution of the underpass height issue to ensure public safety and uninterrupted emergency access.
