Pune: Chakan, Hinjawadi and Manjari-Fursungi-Uruli Devachi to Get New Municipal Corporations
Chakan, 8th August 2025: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday announced that three new Municipal Corporations will be formed in Pune district — one covering Manjari, Fursungi, and Uruli Devachi, and two others in the Chakan and Hinjawadi areas.
Pawar made the statement during an inspection tour in Chakan aimed at addressing worsening traffic congestion and reviewing urban issues in the industrial belt. He noted that Chakan currently has a municipal council, which limits the scope for development, while Hinjawadi is facing increasingly severe traffic problems.
“Municipal Corporations will be formed in these areas, whether anyone likes it or not,” Pawar asserted.
Highlighting the scale of industrial activity, he said the Chakan industrial area houses more than 1,500 small and large companies employing around 3.5 lakh people. Over one lakh vehicles pass through the area daily, contributing to heavy traffic congestion. Pawar stressed that resolving these transport issues is a priority.
