Pune, 16th August 2025: Once hailed as a super drink for its role in boosting metabolism, aiding weight management, and promoting overall wellness, green tea has firmly established itself as a global health trend. But doctors caution that the beverage is not universally safe — and, for some people, it may do more harm than good.

Who Should Avoid Green Tea?

Health experts identify five groups most at risk:
People with Weak Digestion – The tannins in green tea can raise stomach acid levels, worsening constipation, gas, and acidity.
Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women – Its caffeine content may pose health risks and is best minimized or avoided during this period.
Patients with Anemia – Green tea can reduce iron absorption; consuming more than two cups a day may aggravate the condition.
People with Anxiety Disorders – Caffeine may trigger restlessness, disturbed sleep, and elevated heart rate.
Individuals with Migraine or Thyroid Issues – Green tea can trigger headaches in migraine patients and complicate thyroid conditions.

How to Consume Safely
Doctors recommend limiting green tea to one or two cups daily, consumed at least an hour before or after meals. Anyone experiencing discomfort should consult a medical professional immediately.

While green tea remains a beneficial beverage for many, experts stress that moderation and personal health conditions must guide its use.
