Pimpri Chinchwad: Woman Duped of Rs 2 Lakh in Online Hotel Rating and Bitcoin Trading Scam
Bhosari, 20th August 2025: A 31-year-old woman was cheated of ₹2,00,120 under the pretext of earning money by giving hotel ratings and later through a fraudulent Bitcoin trading scheme. The incidents occurred on June 21 at Shastri Chowk, Bhosari, and on June 24 in Belgaum, Karnataka.
The victim lodged a complaint at Bhosari Police Station on Tuesday against unidentified accused persons. According to police, the woman was first contacted via a Telegram account and asked to give 5-star ratings to hotels and restaurants, followed by sharing screenshots. To build trust, the fraudster initially transferred some money to her account. Later, he lured her into investing the “earned” money in Bitcoin for higher profits.
Through nine transactions, the woman lost ₹1,12,040. While attempting to recover the amount, she searched online and found a mobile number claiming to belong to an official from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). That individual further cheated her of ₹88,080 by asking her to transfer money to his UPI ID.
In total, she was duped of ₹2,00,120. Bhosari police have registered the case and are investigating further.
