Birthday Celebration Turns Ugly: Group of Women Fight on Lonavala Highway, Traffic Paralyzed
Lonavala, 20th August 2025: A birthday outing in Lonavala turned chaotic when a group of women got into a brawl on the Mumbai–Pune National Highway, right outside the Lonavala Traffic Police outpost on Wednesday. The incident brought traffic heading towards Mumbai to a standstill for nearly an hour.
Eyewitnesses reported that the women hurled abuses at each other and physically assaulted one another. They also reportedly abused and attacked the men accompanying them. The commotion persisted despite the presence of police at the site.
Male officers were initially hesitant to intervene due to the involvement of women. Female officers from the Lonavala City Police Station were eventually called to bring the situation under control, and the women were taken into custody. The incident occurred around noon.
Authorities confirmed that the group, consisting of men and women from Nigdi, Pune, had come to Lonavala for sightseeing and a birthday celebration. According to witnesses, some members of the group appeared to be intoxicated. A minor disagreement escalated quickly into a full-blown physical fight.
The episode unfolded at the main junction of the Mumbai–Pune National Highway, directly in front of the traffic police outpost. Efforts by police and local citizens to calm the group failed initially, with the women reportedly shouting, “The police are in our pocket,” and refusing to cooperate. The disturbance lasted for about an hour before order was restored.
