PMRDA Pushes for Faster Land Acquisition to Ease Pune Traffic, Reviews Ring Road Progress
Pune, 21st August 2025: In a bid to tackle mounting traffic congestion in Pune and its surrounding areas, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has directed immediate action on land acquisition and measurement for key road projects, including the Ring Road.
Dr. Mhase chaired a joint meeting of officials from various administrative agencies at the PMRDA office in Aundh on Thursday, where he emphasized the need for swift coordination between departments. “Traffic congestion has become a pressing issue for Pune and nearby towns. Road widening, new corridors, and alternative bypasses are the only sustainable solutions. Land acquisition must begin without delay,” he instructed.
Over the past few weeks, PMRDA has been implementing multiple measures to address traffic bottlenecks in Hinjawadi, Chakan, and other fast-developing zones. The Ring Road project and widening of national highways are at the core of these efforts. Dr. Mhase directed agencies to immediately conduct land surveys and forward acquisition proposals to the District Collector.
During the meeting, specific instructions were issued for land acquisition related to the elevated corridor approach ramp across villages including Nanekarwadi, Medankarwadi, Waki Khurd, Waki Budruk, Chimbli, Kuruli, and Chakan (Taluka Khed). Plans for alternative external bypass roads were also discussed to ease congestion in Chakan city by acquiring land in Medankarwadi, Kadachiwadi, Nanekarwadi, and Kharabwadi.
Proposals for land acquisition on other routes were reviewed as well, including:
Balewadi to Shedgewasti,
Surya Hospital to Thakar Wasti,
Nande–Maan in Mulshi taluka.
Traffic issues around Navale Bridge, one of the city’s chronic choke points, were also discussed with a focus on alternative solutions.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla, Director of Development Permission and Planning Avinash Patil, Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan, Land Acquisition Coordination Officer Kalyan Pandhare, Joint Commissioner Himmat Kharade, Superintendent of Land Records Asha Jadhav, and senior officials from PMC, NHAI, PWD, and the National Highways Department were present at the meeting.
Ring Road Land Acquisition in Phases
The meeting also reviewed the phased progress of the Ring Road project. In the first phase, measurements in villages including Solu, Solu Interchange, Vadgaon Shinde, and Nirgudi (between Nashik Highway and Nagar Road) have been completed, with land acquisition now in the final stage.
In the second phase, joint measurement work at Ambegaon Khurd and Bhilarewadi (between Nagar Highway and Solapur Highway) has been completed. The third phase covers land acquisition between Solapur Road and Satara Road, while the fourth phase involves land along the Satara–Paud Road route.
Dr. Mhase, along with Collector Dudi, reviewed the progress of each phase and urged departments to expedite pending processes. “The Ring Road is critical for Pune’s future growth and mobility. Timely land acquisition will ensure that the project doesn’t face unnecessary delays,” Dr. Mhase said.
