Pune: PCMC’s Thergaon Hospital Gets Historic Approval for DNB Postgraduate Course
Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th August 2025: In a landmark development for healthcare and medical education in Pimpri Chinchwad, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, has approved four seats for the DNB (General Medicine) postgraduate degree course at the newly inaugurated Thergaon Hospital, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has announced. He described the approval as a “historic milestone” for the city.
The NBEMS had earlier sanctioned a total of 22 seats for the Post Graduate Diploma course across Municipal Corporation hospitals, with 12 at Thergaon Hospital, 8 at Akurdi Hospital, and 2 at Bhosari Hospital, all of which are currently underway. Meanwhile, the National Medical Council has already launched a postgraduate degree program at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital.
Commissioner Singh said the approval for Thergaon Hospital will strengthen the city’s healthcare services while also enhancing its medical education capabilities. “The new Thergaon Hospital will provide students hands-on experience, active participation in patient care, and guidance from senior doctors, which will improve both medical education and the quality of patient care,” he added.
The hospital, which serves a large number of patients daily, offers advanced diagnostic facilities along with treatment for various diseases. With the NBEMS curriculum, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation hospitals are set to evolve beyond healthcare provision into centres of modern medical education and research, giving students the opportunity to gain comprehensive medical knowledge and practical experience.
Shekhar Singh, Commissioner and Administrator, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, said: “Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is striving to continuously improve its healthcare system. Our goal is to provide high-quality healthcare, modern facilities, and skilled manpower while creating educational and research opportunities. The recognition of Thergaon Hospital for the DNB postgraduate course highlights the credibility and capability of our hospitals. Through medical education, we will produce skilled doctors who will ensure higher quality healthcare for our citizens.”
Dr. Laxman Gofane, Health Medical Officer, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, added: “This recognition for Thergaon Hospital is the result of many years of consistent hard work. It will benefit students with high-quality training, practical experience, and expert guidance. The process will make patient care more efficient and also boost educational and research activities.”
The move marks a significant step in integrating advanced medical training with public healthcare services in Pimpri Chinchwad, paving the way for better healthcare outcomes and enhanced professional training for future doctors.
