Worm Found in YiPPee! Noodles? Pune Consumer Complaint Sparks Food Safety Concerns
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Kondhwa, 10th September 2025: A shocking consumer complaint has surfaced in Pune after a resident alleged that he found a worm in a packet of Sunfeast YiPPee! Magic Masala Noodles, a popular instant noodle brand manufactured by ITC.
The complainant, identified as Tehseen, claimed that the incident occurred while preparing the noodles for his children. According to him, while boiling the noodles on the gas stove, worms began floating up in the water, raising serious safety concerns. Alarmed by the discovery, Tehseen immediately contacted the manufacturer and the retail outlet where the packet was purchased. He also stated that he has forwarded a complaint to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), urging authorities to take strict action.
D Mart Responds
The noodles were purchased from D Mart, Royal Heritage Mall, NIBM, Pune. The store manager confirmed the matter and said it has been escalated to ITC for investigation:
“We have highlighted the issue to ITC. Thousands of packets come to our D Mart every day, and we have forwarded this complaint to the company for further action.”
ITC’s Statement
In its official response, ITC Foods assured that its products are manufactured under stringent quality standards and that consumer safety remains its top priority. The company has requested the complainant to retain the packet and hand it over for closer examination.
An ITC spokesperson said:
“All packets of Sunfeast YiPPee! Magic Masala Noodles are manufactured with utmost care and undergo rigorous quality checks. We request the consumer to hand over the product pack to our representative so that we can examine the issue more closely. A proper quality check will be conducted to investigate this complaint.”
The company also mentioned that it had attempted to contact the complainant by phone but was unable to establish communication.
Rising Food Safety Concerns
The incident has sparked worry among consumers, especially since instant noodles are a common snack in Indian households, particularly among children. While ITC has reiterated its commitment to food safety, the consumer’s decision to escalate the issue to FSSAI reflects growing public demand for stricter monitoring of packaged food.
Food safety authorities are expected to review the case once ITC completes its internal probe and submits details. If confirmed, the matter could lead to stronger enforcement actions and quality control checks across the packaged food sector.
