Vendor Arrested After Viral Video Shows Passenger Forced to Give Watch for Failed UPI Payment at Jabalpur Station

Jabalpur, 19th October 2025: A viral video showing a passenger being forced to hand over his wristwatch to a food vendor after a failed UPI payment at Jabalpur railway station has prompted swift action from railway authorities.

According to West Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Harshit Srivastava, the incident took place on the evening of October 17. The vendor allegedly snatched the passenger’s watch after a UPI transaction failed while the train was departing from Jabalpur.

“The incident occurred on the evening of 17th October. At Jabalpur station, a vendor snatched the watch of a passenger after he made a purchase from him. Taking quick action, the Railway Administration identified the vendor and he was arrested under the Railway Act, and a case was registered. The license under which he worked is being cancelled,” Srivastava said in an official statement.

The vendor has been identified as Sandeep Gupta. Railway officials confirmed that immediate action was taken following the viral circulation of the video, and necessary legal proceedings are underway.
