Pune Woman Lured and Raped After Accepting Two-Wheeler Lift, Accused Arrested
Indapur, 25th October 2025: A woman traveling from Bhigwan to Pune was allegedly raped after being lured onto a two-wheeler. The Pune Rural Police have arrested Jakya Kondakya Chavan, 30, a resident of Lingali, Daund, in connection with the crime.
The incident took place on October 10 around 3:30 am on the Pune-Solapur highway. The woman was waiting for a vehicle to Pune when Chavan, who is a criminal on police record and has a prior case of housebreaking registered against him, reportedly convinced her to travel on his two-wheeler.
Police said Chavan stopped the vehicle near the railway bridge in the Mald area. He then allegedly dragged the woman to a nearby tree, threatened her with death, and committed the sexual assault before fleeing. The frightened victim ran to Bhigwan Police Station to file a complaint.
Given the gravity of the crime, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill directed the formation of three police teams from Bhigwan, Daund, and the local crime branch. A sketch of the accused was prepared based on the victim’s description, and a search operation was launched in the Daund and Bhigwan areas. CCTV footage and technical investigations helped trace Chavan, who was arrested from Lingali. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
The operation was carried out by a team including Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar of the local crime branch, Inspector Gopal Pawar of Daund Police Station, and Assistant Inspector Vinod Mahangade of Bhigwan Police Station.
