Punekar News Impact: PMC Fixes Garbage Problem in Undri Within a Day
Reported by Shoaib Tadvi
Undri, 1st November 2025: In a positive development, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken swift action to resolve the irregular garbage collection issue at Godrej Prana Co-operative Housing Society in Undri — just a day after Punekar News reported on residents’ grievances and civic concerns.
According to society members, PMC sanitation workers arrived within 24 hours of the article’s publication and cleared all accumulated garbage from the premises. Waste collection vehicles have since resumed their regular daily rounds, bringing much-needed relief to residents who had been struggling with uncollected waste, foul odours, and pest infestations for over a week.
“PMC has started coming regularly now. The issue was resolved soon after the article was published. We’re grateful to Punekar News and Shoaib Tadvi for highlighting our problem,” said Sanghamitra Karmakar, a resident of Godrej Prana Society.
Earlier, residents had alleged that despite paying property taxes and civic levies, they continued to face persistent neglect in basic services such as garbage collection, water supply, and road maintenance. The accumulation of waste had posed serious hygiene risks to over 2,000 residents in and around the society.
Following the media coverage, PMC officials reportedly reviewed the situation and deployed additional staff to ensure uninterrupted waste collection in the locality. The civic body has also assured residents that monitoring will be strengthened to prevent similar lapses in the future.
Local residents expressed relief over the prompt response and said the development reflects the power of civic journalism in bridging the gap between citizens and administration.
The quick intervention by PMC following public reporting highlights how timely media coverage can amplify citizens’ voices and prompt authorities to act effectively in addressing local governance issues.
