Kothrud, 3rd November 2025: In a major step towards easing traffic congestion in western Pune, the Pune Mahametro has announced plans to construct a double-decker flyover at Kothrud Bus Depot Chowk. The project will be part of the Phase 2 expansion of the Vanaj–Ramwadi Metro line, which is now set to extend up to Chandni Chowk.

According to officials, the upcoming structure will feature a two-tier design — the metro line will run on the upper deck, while a flyover for vehicular traffic will occupy the lower level. The initiative aims to provide a long-term solution to the heavy traffic flow along Paud Road and its adjoining areas.

After successful implementation of similar double-decker structures at Nal Stop and University Chowk, the new flyover at Kothrud is expected to bring significant relief to commuters. The Nal Stop bridge has already helped streamline traffic between Law College Road, Paud Phata, and Deccan Corner, while the partial opening of the University Chowk flyover has reduced travel time for motorists in the university area.

Officials added that the planned Kothrud flyover will not only decongest one of Pune’s busiest intersections but will also complement the metro’s efforts to reduce dependence on private vehicles, thereby improving overall traffic movement along the Paud Road corridor.
